Even in the last seconds of 2014, people were already placing their bets on whether Back To The Future's predictions of power clothing, self-lacing Nike's and...whatever Biff was wearing on his head would become the fashion of tomorrow. Thankfully most of these are either out of style or not in existence yet, however in terms of accurate foretelling for 2015 there's some pretty eccentric items on the horizon. Like most seasonal wear it's a mix of bold new looks and vintage revivals, but we'd argue that the men's fashion trends for 2015 are more accessible and less affronting that in previous years.
Choosing Your New Shirts for Springtime
With beanies, beards and bomber jackets having well worn out their welcome by now, Spring will, as ever, be the first major test of new styles for the year. The slightly mild change in weather apparently is to see a major shift in the simple buttoned shirt, with the advancement of suede, patchwork and much, much longer hemlines. Some stockists are even doing away with buttons altogether, by replacing it with a full length zipper - great for those not yet ready to say goodbye to their £300+ jacket just yet and need a transitional item of clothing...
Dressed Down Suits - Casual is the New Smart
Like every year the eye is quite firmly on the suit, but various clothing brands and designers are trying out some remarkable changes for this year's formal dinner wear. We're not sure if its a question of comfort or minimalism, but each big name in men's clothing is dropping something from their ensembles. We've seen suits with no collars, let alone no ties, and yet all still retain an element of class. Some lookbooks and campaigns are even strutting out casual footwear like worker boots or trainers, but we would caution heavily before turning up to work in your best three piece and flip-flops.
Getting Depp into Dandyism
For those unaware, a 'Dandy' is a man who places heavy attention on his physical dress and style - to the point where it's almost impossible to imagine them without it. Think Oscar Wilde, Jay Gatsby & Willy Wonka and you get the basic picture. Though the above suit dialling down is a signal that this steadily returning trend may be decreasing, it's not going out without a fight. Numerous big name designers like Van Noten and Valentino have silk printed pants and shirts planned for Spring 2015, and even right now the eccentric dresser will hit our screens with the film adaptation of Mortdecai
starring Johnny Depp (who's twizzled moustache is almost larger than the poster).
The incoming 'severity' of Men's Accessories
In terms of trinkets and optional extras, Bill Price (Deputy Editor for British GQ) has told us to expect an influx of accessories
that can best be described as 'serious'. This means watches will be less bulky and more practical, and further in the realm of wristwear we should be ready for bracelets that have a handmade quality, with old school precious metals and high-tech carbon fibre. Men's Gift Company can put you a little ahead of the game here, with Hardware steel bracelets
that mix a delicate look with sturdy construction:
